Accessibility

How this site is built to be usable, and what to do if it is not working for you.

This site is built to be usable by people with disabilities, including those using screen readers, keyboard navigation, or screen magnification.

How this site is built

  • It works without JavaScript. Every page is plain HTML. Nothing on this site requires scripting to read, navigate, or download.
  • Expandable questions use native browser controls. The FAQ uses standard HTML disclosure elements, which screen readers announce correctly and which open with the keyboard.
  • Every page has a skip link. Press Tab on any page to jump straight to the main content.
  • Headings are structured, not decorative. Each page has one main heading and a real hierarchy beneath it, so a screen reader can navigate by section.
  • Text resizes. Increasing text size in your browser will not break the layout, and the site reflows for narrow screens and magnification.
  • Color is never the only signal. Links and emphasis do not rely on color alone to carry meaning.

Adjusting your own browser

Most people get the biggest improvement from their own browser settings rather than from anything a website provides:

  • Larger text: press Ctrl and + (Windows) or and + (Mac). Press it again to keep enlarging.
  • Read the page aloud: most browsers and both major phone operating systems include a built-in reading feature.
  • Higher contrast: Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android all include system-wide contrast and dark mode settings that this site respects.

The PDF guides

The downloadable patient guides are text-based PDFs, so they can be read aloud, searched, and enlarged. If you have trouble with any of them, call the office and we will provide the information in another form — including a large-print copy.

The knee replacement guide and the protein guide are each available in English and Spanish. Both language versions have the same content on the same page numbers, so staff can refer to a page number regardless of which version you are holding.

Standard

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Accessibility is not a one-time achievement, and parts of this site may fall short.
